Casualty Handling Equipment

Some of the First Aid and casualty handling equipment carried
on our vehicles

Box Splint- Used to stabilise an injured leg<br />Carried on Fire 2
Casualty Shield- Used to protect a casualty from flying debirs<br />while rescue operations are taking place<br />Carried on Fire 2
Entonox- Entonox - used for pain relief<br />Carried on Fire 1 and Fire 2,<br />All vehicles also carry Oxygen
Long Board- Long or Spinal board, used for<br />transporting casualties with suspected spinal<br />injuries, also extricating casualties from<br />a vehicle<br />Carried on Fire 2
Stiff Neck Collars- Used to provide additional support for<br />the Cervical Spine (C1 - C7)<br />Until casualty is immobilised on a <br />stretcher<br />Carried on Fire 1 and Fire 2
First Aid Kit- CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) compliant<br />First Aid Kit<br />Minimum requirements for first aid kits are laid down in CAA publication<br />CAP 168 - Chapter 8<br />Carried on all Vehicles
Scoop (Orthopaedic) Stretcher- Used to transport casualties with a suspected<br />spinal injury, design enables casualty to be<br />placed on the the stretcher with minimal<br />movement, thus minimising further potential injury to the spine<br />Carried on Fire 2 and Fire 4
KED (Kendrick Extraction Device)- Used for extricating a casualty with a suspected spinal injury from a confined<br />space (aircraft cockpit, etc) where the<br />scoop, or the long board can not be used<br />Carried on Fire 2
